Niyati Rawal
BIO
Niyati currently working as an early-stage researcher in the Perseo project at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. Â
Her research is about combining vision and language for robots to be able to perform actions. Â
She completed bachelor's degree at Osaka University, Japan and master’s degree at Rovira i Virgili University, Spain.Â
Niyati's bachelor thesis was about understanding the development of visual attention to faces during infancy for which she implemented a recurrent neural network (RNN) that learned to attend to visual stimuli in faces using reinforcement learning (RL).
Her master thesis was on artificial morality using knowledge representation, where she used a top-down approach to implement and compare the moral theories of deontology and utilitarianism in a Pac-Man game setting.
Before joining here, Niyati was a research assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany where she worked on emotion expressions in human-robot interaction.
